This is the website of the SNF-funded project, "Describing the World", based at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Geneva
Describing the World
This SNF-funded research project is about formal semantics. Possible worlds semantics has dominated the area during the second part of the 20th century and is still very much lively. Situation semantics, and much more recently truthmaker semantics, have been put forward as better alternatives. Our aim is twofold: we want (i) to thoroughly assess the situation and truthmaker frameworks, and (ii) to explore a new, prima facie more powerful framework, which replaces the world-to-language relation of verification/falsification, with the language-to-world relation of describing.
Here you can find a brief description of the project. In this other section, you can find information about us and our current work. The news section contains the latest news on the project and its members. The events section displays information about the events that we organize.
Our reading group meets every week, the schedule is here. If you wish to interact with us, you should definitely check out the blog!
